Air cadets celebrate CVQO patron Dannii Minogue’s honorary doctorate

Cadets from the air, army and sea cadets were on board HQS Wellington, London on Wednesday 9th November to celebrate CVQO patron Dannii Minogue being presented with her honorary doctorate in Media from the University of Solent.

Representing the air cadets were Sgt Andrew Murphy and Sgt Jessica Garrod, both of 452 (Hornchurch) Squadron, HQ London Wing ATC. Also present was Flt Sgt Alice Brooks of 494 (Stansted Airport) Sqn ATC, HQ Essex Wing, who was a finalist at this year’s Duke of Westminster Awards, an annual competition ran by CVQO to reward the most outstanding cadets across the UK.

As patron of educational charity CVQO, singer and TV star Dannii Minogue is a huge supporter of the cadet forces in the UK and the opportunities offered to cadets.

Joining the cadets were their counterparts from St John Ambulance, who are taking part in one of CVQO’s newest schemes to offer learning opportunities to more youth organisations. Also present was Admiral the Right Honourable Lord West of Spithead, Chairman of CVQO, and Chancellor of the University of Solent.

Of being a patron for CVQO, Dannii said, “The biggest thing about CVQO is giving young people who want to further themselves a chance, and to provide mentors who want to help them along the way. That’s been such a big part of my life, I’ve had great people around me to guide me, support me and teach me. It’s incredible to see the enthusiasm from the cadets and to see how they develop throughout their time.”
