Now more than ever, the Volunteer Reserve Forces are an integral and vital part of the UK's Armed Forces. Those who join can expect to be mobilised at least once in their military career. This not only demands the continued dedication and enthusiasm of our Reservists, but also the support of their partners, families and employers.

INTRODUCING SaBRE

SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) is an impartial Ministry of Defence (MOD) body, which provides support to members of the Volunteer Reserve Forces and their employers. The SaBRE campaign has a dual remit:

• To liaise between organisations and members of their staff who belong to the Reserves, with the aim of enhancing employer/Reservist relationships.
• To support employers of Reservists, by providing information and advice on relevant issues, and giving them a sympathetic ear and a strong voice within the MOD.

THE BENEFITS OF EMPLOYING A RESERVIST

All members of the Reserve Forces undergo rigorous training which develops valuable skills like leadership, teamwork, effective communication and organisational ability. This can lead to improved performance in the workplace, with transferable attributes that include the ability to work under pressure, reliability, self-confidence and a determination to succeed.

SUPPORTIVE EMPLOYERS

A large part of the SaBRE campaign is about recognising employers who are supportive of Reservist employees. If you would like to register your organisation’s support for the Volunteer Reserve Forces and receive a SaBRE certificate in recognition, please call 020 7384 4676.

EMPLOYER EVENTS

Every year SaBRE runs events for employers that are designed either to inform and brief on a particular subject or to thank them for their support. Events are free to employers to attend and are open to anyone. Previous SaBRE events to which London employers have been invited include visits to:

• HMS Westminster and HMS St Albans, frigates visiting London
• Army Presentation Team events
• TA competitions involving London units
• RAF Northolt, including the British Forces Post Office depot
• Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo
