Joint Cadet Centre Sidcup

ACF 106 Detachment and ATC 1227 (Sidcup) Squadron have been re-housed in a purpose built Joint Cadet Centre on their site at Old Farm Road East, Sidcup following the completion of a project replacing the disparate mix of inadequate accommodation formerly occupied.

The new building, scaled to meet the joint requirements of 280m2 gross area is of modular construction and meets all the current regulations relating to environmental requirements and should achieve an “Excellent” BREEAM/DREAM rating with further considerations being considered for wind power adding to the solar photovoltaic improvements to the site.

Rochester Row

Commander Regional Recruiting Army has moved from HQ London District and been joined by the Army Careers Information Office from the Strand and Army Recruiting Team from Pirbright and White City.

Work to house 219 Squadron ATC, formerly at Horseferry Road, has completed and the squadron has moved.  The site allows it to expand from 60 to over 100 cadets to add to the two ACF detachments who already occupy the second floor.

Southfields

The lease expiry enforced move of RMR London from Bermondsey to Southfields is complete.  Despite suffering a three-week delay in the confirmation of the funding we accelerated the construction programme at no extra cost and completed the work ahead of schedule.  Bermondsey ACF's re-located in the The Globe School.

Southfields will also remain home to a Royal Signals Troop, an ACF detachment, SSAFA, possiblly Surrey Wing ATC and a new RM Cadet detachment may be formed.

Vacant garages could be used to house heavy vehicles /equipment should any come to the Reserves post FR20, and also provide a borough community location for youth activities.

Kingswood

The new home of 104 Detachment ACF is in an extension to the Kingswood Centre, Bromley.  It includes dedicated accommodation but also shares much of the remaining building with a youth centre catering for excluded children from the borough – possibly a potential source of new recruits.

RAF Uxbridge

Because the sale of RAF Uxbridge made 1838 Squadron ATC (110 cadets) homeless, we provided a new home in a converted garage block in Uxbridge TA Centre. MoDEL provided the of funding and we undertook the design, tender and contract management of the project, handing it over to the OC ahead of time on 9 July 2010.  The site is now occupied by TA, ACF, ATC and SSAFA.

To save The Treasury £41m the Defence Infrastructure Organisation were required to vacate St. George's Court in Bloomsbury before the end of March.  This meant that a new home had to be found for the AFCO.

The only way this could be achieved was by utilising not only a TA Centre but also the Estates Department's expertise and professional commercialism to undertake a £1m design and construction project in 4 months.  They took occupation at the end of February 2012.
