Armed Forces Day 2012 will be held on Saturday 30 June.  Plymouth will host the national event.

Last year Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday 25th June 2011

Across the country people got involved, communities held events and businesss showed their support.  The national event was held in Edinburgh, and there were many more events up and down the country.

Hundreds of Wandsworth Residents Honour the Armed Forces In Battersea Park

HUNDREDS OF WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS celebrated the contribution of their local Armed Forces by supporting a Companion Dog Show in Battersea Park hosted by the Council’s Parks Police.  The event took place on Sunday 26 June (10.30am – 4.30pm) in honour of Britain’s Armed Forces: past, present and future with all proceeds from the event going to the military charity.  The London Regiment Welfare and Benevolent Fund.  

Councillor Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council said:  “Armed Forces Day provides an opportunity for us to show our gratitude and appreciation to the Armed Services.  We have invited the community to come and join us today to celebrate the brave men and women who risk their lives in defence of our country.”

Wandsworth is home to TA soldiers from the London Regiment, based in Battersea, Balham and the Royal Marines Reserve based in Southfields.  Many of these Reservists have seen operational Service in Iraq or Afghanistan.   The London Regiment’s Major James Swanston, Officer Commanding, C (City of London Fusiliers) Company located in Balham High Road said “The London Regiment and other local Reserve Forces receive a tremendous amount of support from the London Borough of Wandsworth.  We are immensely fortunate to have such a close relationship with them.  We particularly appreciate the efforts they go to in thanking our soldiers who go on operations.”  He continued “We are delighted to be able to be involved in Armed Forces Day and have the opportunity to meet many of the local residents of Wandsworth.”
