Community Engagement

One of our main roles is to support and publicise events that bring the military into contact with the civilian population (and vice-versa), in order to foster a wider and better understanding of the Armed Forces and a greater appreciation of service personnel. Our footprint and standing with local communities make us an ideal vehicle for promoting the Armed Forces and Cadet Movement within the community.

In practical terms there are many ways in which the military can engage the local community. The Service Presentation Teams regularly visit London supported by us and the local chain of command. Service Unit Commanders regularly attend key local events and representatives of the local civilian population are frequently invited to attend military events.

The Reserve Forces and Cadets are able to support Community Engagement with a consistent flow of ideas and initiatives to the community from which they come and are in daily contact with. They also support local and national charities by assisting with fundraising. We retain the services of professional PR people to help ensure that news of the activities of the Reserve Forces and Cadets is featured in local media.

We also work closely with the London Boroughs to keep abreast of community developments and changes and to keep them informed of developments with the Armed Forces and Cadets which may affect the communities they serve. A Representative Councillor is appointed from each London Borough to the Association in order to provide another important link between the community and its Armed Forces.
