Managing the Estate
|
GL RFCA manages the whole of the Volunteer Estate within Greater London. We provide a complete maintenance and management service to the customers that both occupy and administer the 193 individual locations. We are responsible for these Reserve and Cadet Centres on behalf of the Minister of State. There are 46 Reserve Force Centres in London including one RNR ship, HMS President, a Royal Marines Reserve Centre, as well as one Royal Auxiliary Air Force unit at RAF Northolt and some 147 Cadet establishments including four Cadet Training Centres - some 800 individual assets in all to be managed. The Estate ranges in style and size from listed Georgian houses to small timber buildings, from sites of tens of square metres to up to three acres. The age of properties ranges from original drill halls built at the turn of the 19th century to brand new purpose built facilities such as The Princess Royal House in Sutton opened by HRH The Princess Royal in 2008. Our service includes all essential maintenance and repair, lease negotiations and assessments, as well as health and safety compliance of all assets and associated audit assurance. We have successfully designed and project managed multi-million pound rebuilds and full refurbishments of both Reserve and Cadet locations. Over the past 30 years, in common with all military establishments, high priority was placed on the security of the site and its users. Sadly the sight of razor wire and other security precautions blighted attractive buildings and in some ways isolated the Reserve Forces from the local community. However with the advance of technology in the security field most of the buildings in the charge of GL RFCA are back to their original pleasing appearance. |
