South London’s Royal Artillery Territorial Army Unit Cements its Links with Firepower Museum

Two commemorative red Bricks, (part of the Royal Artillery Firepower Museum Brick by Brick Appeal) laid in the floor of the Firepower Museum at Woolwich, were donated by members of London’s only remaining Royal Artillery Battery, at a ceremony held last week at the Museum.

Major Nick Woellwarth, Battery Commander 265th (Home Counties) Battery, 106th (Yeomanry) Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers), based at Grove Park Territorial Army Centre, arranged for the purchased of the two ‘Bricks’ from the Museum’s Brick by Brick Appeal, which helps to fund the museum.

Major Woellwarth, a Territorial Army Officer who works for John Lang Plc in Victoria, commissioned the two ‘Bricks’ not only to mark the strong links that his Territorial Army unit has with Woolwich and South London but also his own strong family ties with the Royal Artillery.

One Brick is inscribed with 265 Battery,106 Regiment RA (V), whilst the second Brick is donated on behalf of Major Woellwarth’s Grandfather, Brigadier H S Lickman DSO OBE, late Royal Artillery and Superintendent of Experimental Ranges, at Shoeburyness 1941-1946.

Nick said, “It is a tremendously proud moment for me today not just in my capacity as the Battery Commander of London’s last remaining Royal Artillery Battery, but in particular to be able to honour the museum by commissioning a Brick on behalf of my Grandfather Brigadier Harry Sylvanus Lickman, who served in the Royal Artillery in both the First and Second World Wars”

Both bricks will be laid on the Museum floor and will join the 260 other ‘Bricks’ donated by members of the public and organisations.  The Brick by Brick Appeal was set up by the Firepower Museum to help fund the running of the Museum which was opened on 2001.
