In late 2022, UK team members from Discover Financial Services started up a regional HMV (Honouring Military & Veterans) Employee Resource Group (ERG) to champion the Armed Forces community in the UK. The ERG’s mission – raise and promote allyship of UK military members within Discover’s Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and create a stronger talent pipeline.
Since forming, the UK HMV ERG has raised money and awareness for the Armed Forces community through various events, such as:
- Poppy Appeal – the Royal British Legion’s largest fundraising campaign where over £15,000 were raised.
- Save a Warrior UK – charitable organisation dedicated to the preservation of life in the Armed Forces and first responder communities.
To strengthen their partnership with the UK Armed Forces even further and make a greater impact to the thousands of military personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families, Discover Financial Services signed an Armed Forces Covenant in March 2024 enabling the company to make special commitments supporting the miliary community.
These commitments enable Discover to be a stronger supporter of the UK Armed Forces by allowing us to serve as an employer of choice for the military community so we can:
- Improve advocacy and allyship.
- Build new diverse talent pipelines.
- Foster a greater sense of belonging and inclusion.
“It was a real privilege to be able to co-sign the Armed Forces Covenant with Discover Financial Services (DFS) and to hear of their commitment to those that are serving, have served, and their families.
“I’m hugely grateful for their support and look forward to seeing DFS climb through the ERS ladder through further charitable activities and Armed Forces advocacy. I wish them the best on their journey.”
Captain Jonathan Gregory RN, MOD Signatory
“I’m proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and formally show our support for members of the UK military community.
“We are working hard to make positive changes internally to support existing and future talent from this community and become the top choice for Armed Forces members and their families in the UK.”
